9:00Introduction and welcome.
John & Pete will set the tone for the weekend by playing and talking through a couple of their current favourite numbers
9:30Performance masterclass with John. You play a piece of your choice, John will comment, then you play again applying what you’ve learnt. Hugely beneficial for the player and those listening. Harmonic analysis with Pete. Pete will show you how to deal with a new tune, breaking it down into something you can play over.
11:00John’s masterclass continuesAccompanying the soloist with Pete. You don’t want to play the same chords the same way for every chorus. Pete will show you how to enliven your comping capabilities
1:30Performance masterclass with Pete. If you want to play accompanied, it’s a good idea to bring along your version of the chords. You can enlist another attendee or Pete/John to accompany you. John does the blues. John finished last year’s JGW concert by showing ‘bluesmen’ how it should be done by playing the blues Etheridge style. In this session he shows how it’s done
3:00Pete’s masterclass continuesJohn gets even bluer. By showing how to make the blues more jazzy, more angular and more be-bop.
4:30Informal jamming / eating / to concert
